The craftsmanshipThe Art Glass DifferenceWhy hand-cast art glass beats molded glass & resin, the many shapes our artisans create, and how to spot the real thing. โ–ฆ Material comparison โœฆ One craft, many shapes ๐Ÿ” Spot genuine glass Open
01 ยท Material Comparison

Hand-cast art glass vs. molded glass vs. resin

Three materials look similar in a thumbnail โ€” but live very differently on your wall. Here's how our hand-cast art glass compares.

Our Hand-Cast Art Glass Molded / Pressed Glass Resin / Acrylic Imitation
How it's made Hand-cast & shaped by artisans, one piece at a time Machine-pressed in a fixed mold, mass-produced Liquid resin poured into a mold, mass-produced
Texture & pattern Unique crackle texture โ€” no two tubes alike Identical, repeating pattern on every unit Flat, "printed-on" look; texture feels superficial
Light quality Deep, layered glow; light refracts through real glass Even but flat; little depth or movement Dull, slightly cloudy; can look plasticky when lit
Feel & weight Substantial, cool, solid in the hand Solid but uniform Noticeably light, warm, hollow-feeling
Color over time Color is in the glass โ€” won't fade or yellow Stable color Can yellow or cloud with heat & UV over time
Heat tolerance High โ€” glass handles bulb heat well High Lower โ€” can warp or discolor near heat
Character A one-of-a-kind work of glass art A functional, uniform fixture A budget look-alike

The takeaway: hand-cast art glass costs more to make, but it's the only one that gives you genuine depth of light, individual character, and lasting color โ€” the qualities that make a fixture feel like art rather than hardware.

02 ยท Forms & Shapes

One craft, many shapes

Every piece begins the same way โ€” molten glass, hand-cast and shaped by our artisans. From that single craft comes a whole family of forms, each catching and releasing light in its own way.

How to spot genuine art glass

Online photos can make resin and glass look alike. Here's how to tell the difference once it's in your home โ€” every point below describes our fixtures.

1
Pick it up

Real glass is cool and substantial. Resin feels warm, light, and hollow. Our tubes have real weight โ€” many customers say the heavy box was their first clue it's genuine.

2
Look at the texture

Hand-cast crackle texture has true depth you can feel with a fingertip. Resin texture looks like it's printed on a flat surface.

3
Turn on the light

Glass refracts light into a layered, moving glow. Resin tends to look flat, dull, or slightly cloudy when lit.

4
Compare two pieces

No two hand-cast tubes are exactly identical. If every piece looks machine-perfect and matched, it's molded โ€” not artisan glass.

Our promise: every fixture is genuine hand-cast art glass. Slight variation between pieces isn't a flaw โ€” it's proof it was made by hand.

Sea glass and frost, alternating all the way around.

The Anwen Two-Tone Glass Tube Chandelier alternates two hand-blown glasses through four descending tiers โ€” one frosted white and opaque, the next aqua and finely textured. Forty-six tubes in all, each hooked individually onto a gold-tone frame.

That alternation is what makes the colour livable. From across the room the two average into a single pale blue-white mass; up close they separate into two distinct materials, and lit, the frosted tubes glow evenly while the aqua ones carry light down their length and catch in the grain. Part of our hand-blown glass tube series. The same tubes turn up in a red glass tube wall sconce when the wall needs the colour instead of the ceiling, and fall in one long column in the smoked striped waterfall chandelier for a stairwell or a double-height entry.

  • Over a Dining TableBest above a round table 30โ€“36โ€ณ (76โ€“91 cm) across, or a rectangular table up to 40โ€ณ (100 cm) wide. Hang the lowest tube about 30โ€“36โ€ณ (75โ€“90 cm) above the tabletop โ€” low enough to light the table, high enough to see across it.
  • Entry Hall & LandingSuits a single-height entry with ceilings of 9โ€“11 ft (2.7โ€“3.3 m). Keep at least 7 ft (2.1 m) of clearance from the floor in any walkway, and centre it over the space rather than over the door.
  • Bedroom & Living RoomSized for rooms of roughly 10 ร— 13 ft (3 ร— 4 m) โ€” add your room's length and width in feet and read the sum as inches. Centre it over the bed or the seating area rather than the geometric middle of the room.
  • Stairwell LandingWorks over a landing or a modest stairwell where it is seen from one level. Mount it over the open void, not directly above the treads, and ask for extra chain before it ships if the drop is long.
Hanging Height Tip

A simple guide: allow about 2.5โ€“3โ€ณ of drop for every foot of ceiling height. In a standard 9 ft room, that puts the bottom of the fixture roughly 7โ€“7.5 ft from the floor. Over a dining table you can hang it lower โ€” 30โ€“36โ€ณ above the tabletop โ€” because nobody walks beneath it. The chain shortens on site by removing links, so the final height is set during installation.

What Makes It Special

01

Two Glasses in One Fixture

Most coloured lighting asks you to commit: you pick blue, and the room has a blue light in it. Here the two glasses alternate all the way around every tier โ€” one frosted white and opaque, the next aqua and clear enough to show the grain running down its length. Neither dominates, and the pairing is what makes the colour wearable in a room you actually live in.

02

It Reads Differently from Across the Room

Stand back and the alternation blurs โ€” the tiers resolve into a single pale blue-white mass, closer to sea glass than to a coloured fixture. Step underneath and it separates again into forty-six distinct tubes, each with its own grain and its own depth of tint. Two different pieces depending on where you stand.

03

Hooked One by One onto Gold

Nothing is glued or sealed into a housing. Every tube hangs from its own small hook along a gold-tone frame, tier by tier, which is why the rows carry a natural give that a moulded fixture never has โ€” and why a single damaged tube can be replaced on its own rather than returning the whole chandelier.

The Design

Colour, Without the Commitment

Pale blue-white from the doorway. Two different glasses up close.

Nearly everyone loves a coloured chandelier in a photograph and hesitates over one in their own house. The reason is fair enough. Colour overhead is a commitment โ€” it is in the room every day, in every photograph you take of that room, and there is no discreet way to change your mind about it.

So this one does not ask you to commit. The two glasses alternate โ€” one tube frosted white and opaque, the next aqua and clear enough to show the grain running down its length, trading places all the way around each of the four tiers, forty-six tubes in all. Neither one wins. From the doorway they average into a single pale blue-white mass, closer to sea glass than to a coloured fixture; walk up to it and the illusion comes apart into two distinct materials.

Lit, the two do different work. The frosted tubes hold the light and glow evenly; the aqua ones carry it down their own length and let it catch in the texture, so what fills the room is a warm diffused body with cooler verticals threaded through it. You get the colour. The room never becomes the blue room.

In Daylight, Unlit

Pale sea glass against a white ceiling โ€” quiet enough that it doesn't announce itself, present enough to be the thing you look at when the room is empty.

Dinners That Run Late

Seen across a table the tiers blur into one soft mass, and the light lands warm on faces with a cool thread running through it. Nobody comments on it. Everybody stays longer.

Standing Right Underneath

Look straight up and it separates โ€” forty-six tubes, each with its own grain and its own depth of tint, hung one by one. The detail nobody sees from the sofa.

Blue from the doorway, two glasses from underneath โ€” and never the blue room.

Questions, Answered

Before You Order

Everything you might want to know about the two glasses, the colour, the light, and getting it on your ceiling.

01Will it make my whole room look blue?

No โ€” and the alternation is exactly why. Only half the tubes are aqua; the other half are frosted white and opaque, and it is the frosted ones that carry most of the light into the room. What you get is warm light with a cool thread running through it, not a blue wash.

The colour lives in the fixture rather than in the room. Look up and you see aqua; look at your walls and you don't. A fixture made entirely of blue glass would behave very differently โ€” that is the trade this design was built to avoid.

02Why two different glasses instead of one?

Two reasons, and they reinforce each other. Visually, alternating the tubes lets the two average out at a distance โ€” from the doorway the four tiers resolve into a single pale blue-white mass, closer to sea glass than to a coloured fixture. Step underneath and they separate again into two distinct materials.

Optically, the two glasses do different jobs. The frosted tubes are opaque and diffuse light evenly, giving the fixture its soft body. The aqua tubes are clear enough to carry light down their own length and let it catch in the grain, adding brighter, cooler verticals. One glass alone would give you one or the other.

03Is the glass really hand-blown?
Yes. All 46 tubes are mouth-blown by hand โ€” never machine-pressed and never acrylic. The bark-deep vertical grain is worked into each tube while the glass is still molten, and colour enters the molten batch rather than being sprayed onto a finished surface. That is why the texture can be felt with a fingertip and why it will never scratch off or fade.
04Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but not identical โ€” and that is the point. Because every tube is blown individually, wall thickness, grain depth and the exact depth of the aqua vary slightly from one to the next. Silhouette, dimensions, finish, tier count and colour family will match what you see here; individual tubes will not. From across the room the tiers read as one mass, so the variation only shows when you are standing under it.
05How bright is it? Will it glare?

Seven bulbs on a 22.8 in fixture is a generous ratio, so this is a genuine room light rather than an accent piece โ€” fitted with warm-white LEDs it will comfortably carry a dining room or a bedroom on its own.

It will not glare. The bulbs sit behind the top tier and stay out of sight from any angle below, and light reaches the room through diffusing frosted glass rather than directly. In a kitchen or over a work surface you will still want task lighting, as with any decorative fixture.

06What bulbs does it use, and can it be dimmed?
It takes 7 ร— E12 / E14 candelabra-base bulbs, LED or Edison style. Bulbs are not included. Dimming depends on the bulb, not the fixture: fit dimmable bulbs on a compatible dimmer circuit and it will dim smoothly. A warm white around 2700K suits this glass best โ€” cooler light pushes the aqua toward grey and flattens the grain in both glasses.
07What size room does it suit?
At โˆ… 22.8โ€ณ (58 cm) this is a mid-scale fixture rather than a grand one. It suits a round dining table 30โ€“36โ€ณ (76โ€“91 cm) across, a rectangular table up to about 40โ€ณ (100 cm) wide, and rooms of roughly 10 ร— 13 ft (3 ร— 4 m) โ€” add your room's length and width in feet and read the sum as inches. Ceilings of 9โ€“11 ft suit it best. In a large open-plan room or a double-height entry it will read undersized; contact us and we can quote a larger custom diameter.
08How high should I hang it?
Over a dining table, hang the lowest tube 30โ€“36โ€ณ (75โ€“90 cm) above the tabletop โ€” you can go lower than instinct suggests, because nobody walks underneath. In any walkway or entry, keep at least 7 ft (2.1 m) of clearance from the floor. For open rooms, allow roughly 2.5โ€“3โ€ณ of drop per foot of ceiling height. The chain shortens on site by removing links, so the final height is set during installation.
09Can I install it on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?

Yes โ€” a chain-hung chandelier is the easiest type to do it with. Because the whole fixture hangs from a single point, it stays perfectly level no matter what angle the ceiling above it sits at. Nothing about the tiers needs adjusting.

The only part to handle is the canopy where it meets the ceiling. A standard canopy sits flush on a shallow pitch only; anything steeper needs a sloped-ceiling adapter, an angled kit that lets the canopy sit flat against the slope while the chain still hangs plumb. Most are rated to around 45ยฐ. Tell us the pitch before you order and we will confirm whether one is needed and supply it.

10Is it difficult to install?
It is a hardwired ceiling fixture and professional installation is recommended. The frame and chain go up first, then the tubes are hooked on tier by tier โ€” with 46 of them this takes patience more than skill. Two people make it far easier: one holding, one hooking. Hang the lowest tier first and work upward, keep the alternation running white-aqua-white as you go, and always switch off power at the breaker before starting. All hardware is included.
11Can I customise the size, colour, or chain length?
Yes. Diameter, height, glass colour, metal finish, light count and chain length can all be specified. If you would rather not have the two-tone effect at all, we can build it in a single glass โ€” all frosted white, or all aqua. Send us your ceiling height and the dimensions of the space, and a drawing is prepared for your approval before anything is built. For a long drop, ask for extra chain before it ships.
12Will the glass arrive safely, and what if a tube breaks?
Every tube is individually wrapped and seated in thick protective foam inside a reinforced box, with the frame and hardware boxed separately. We ship glass every day and pack for the journey. In the rare case something arrives damaged, send photographs within 24 hours of delivery and we will replace the affected part. Because each tube hooks on independently, a single broken tube never means returning the whole chandelier โ€” and we hold spares of both glasses for this design.
13How do I clean it?
Wipe each tube with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth, working down its length rather than across it and supporting it with your other hand. Start at the top tier so dust falls away from what you have already cleaned. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, abrasive pads and glass sprays containing ammonia โ€” the grain traps residue. Always switch the fixture off and let the bulbs cool completely first. Once or twice a year is plenty.
